Compix Honored With Top Broadcast Engineering Awards
IRVINE, Calif. — May 21, 2010 — Compix, a leading developer of professional character generators (CGs), announced today that its solutions have been honored with double awards at the recently concluded 2010 NAB Show. The company’s products were honored with both a Broadcast Engineering Pick Hit Award and a Broadcast Engineering Excellence Award.
The Pick Hit Award was given to the new CompactCG HD, the latest addition to the Compix CompactCG line of full-featured portable CGs. The attractively priced CompactCG HD supports both HD-SDI and SD-SDI operation and boasts the rich feature set of a full-size system in a rugged 1-RU chassis that installs easily into any environment. The system is ideal for channel-branding applications, with software options including NewsScroll with RSS, which provides the power of multiple crawls, logos, a real-time clock, live weather updates, ratings, and live RSS feeds, among other elements. The system’s small footprint makes it a perfect fit for mobile broadcast and OB vans, flypack systems, and multivenue use. With an elegant, intuitive interface for creating broadcast-quality graphics, the CompactCG HD also serves as a convenient and familiar solution in the rental market.
The implementation of the Compix CynerG2 system by Jewish Life TV (JLTV) was also recognized by Broadcast Engineering with an Excellence Award for station automation. A young and quickly growing Los Angeles-based broadcast channel that reaches nearly 25 million U.S. viewers, JLTV incorporated Compix technology for cost-effective production of professional-grade presentations for its viewership while offering attractive advertising opportunities and a high level of visibility for program sponsors.
Installed at JLTV, the CynerG2 system is integrated with other affordable yet powerful technologies, including scheduling, automation, and video servers, to provide the same high-quality look and functionality of competing 24-hour news channels. Even more important, the integrated system provides this functionality at less than one tenth the cost of the major network and cable station facilities. JLTV staff insert sponsor branding along with continuously updated news and information crawls at the bottom of the screen during regular programming, thereby bypassing the growing issue of viewers using DVR recording to skip interstitial spot-based advertising. The staff also uses the Compix CG system to insert personalized messages from viewers in a secondary crawl that, along with programming and sponsor-driven content, helps to engage and build JLTV viewership and, in turn, support the growth of ad revenues.
“The CompactCG HD gives users HD-SDI functionality along with robust features, performance, and reliability at a fraction of the cost of similarly equipped live video graphics systems,” said Veronica Kim, Compix president. “We’re also very pleased that the benefits our CynerG2 system has brought to JLTV have been recognized with a Broadcast Engineering award. Pursuing a savvy and cost-conscious approach to high-impact branding, JLTV has united smart, affordable technologies in an innovative solution that has boosted ad sales, attracted new viewers, and allowed the channel to compete with much larger broadcast brands.”
